FAQ

1        How often should I clean my fountain?

This depends on where you live and how often your fountain gets a visit from the birds.  If this occurs, then you will need regular cleanings, probably once a week at least.  Otherwise, your fountain should get a thorough cleaning – drain it, clean it gently with a soft cloth, and refill it.

2        Is my pump energy efficient?

Most residential fountain pumps use no more electricity than an average 60 watt light bulb.

3        Does my fountain water require any additives?

You should add a product called Protec which will help to keep it clean.  Follow label directions but one drop per gallon should be sufficient to protect from buildup and staining.  Using distilled water is beneficial always!.

4        How often do I need to add water?

This depends again on where you live and the temperatures and variations that are around you.  Because the fountains act as a humidifier, the water level should be checked daily and water added accordingly if necessary.

5        Do I need to read any instructions that come with my fountain?

MOST DEFINITELY!  Read and follow directions carefully – otherwise you may void your warranty.

6        Can I add things like coloring, perfumes or glitzy items to the fountain?

You should not add anything to your fountain unless it was especially built for it.  These things may damage your fountain and void your warranty.

7        Why is my pump making loud noises?

The pump may not be submersed in water as it should be.  It may also be banging against the water part of the fountain.  If the latter is the case, simply insert a small sponge where no one can see it.  If neither of these is the case, then check the manual and/or contact the supplier.

8        Pump is running but water is not flowing…….what should I do?

See if the water level has evaporated below the safe level, or the tubing may be disconnected.  You may have an air gap so try turning the pump on and off several times, keeping the pump totally under the water.

9        Why does the water not cover the entire glass in my glass fountain?

It is important to remember that too gentle of a flow of water can create dry spots.  You can spray the entire face of the glass with water before you start it up or if you notice this later on, simply wipe lightly with a wet soft cloth, or a scotchbrite pad (gently now!) which will help to redirect the flow of water.

10   If my fountain has some copper on it, is there some sort of maintenance I should do?

Although copper should be no problem, sometimes it makes it just a bit easier if you apply a coat of Turtle Wax (the hard one).  In time, you may have that greenish tinge develop, but this can be slowed down by the wax application;  otherwise, if you do nothing, it will eventually develop the same “vertigris patina” as the Statue of Liberty – and there is nothing wrong with that lady!

11   If I put a penny in my copper fountain, will it stop the algae buildup?

We are unable to answer this one – if anyone has the answer, would they please let us know so we can update the information sheet?  Thanks.
